Ofcom awards Bath licence to The Breeze

MUMBAI: Ofcom has today announced the award of the re-advertised FM local commercial radio licence for Bath.

Ofcom received three applications for the Bath licence, which is currently held by One Gold Radio Ltd (broadcasting as Total Star). The existing Bath licence expires on 14 November 2011.

After giving careful consideration to each of the applications submitted, Ofcom has awarded the licence to: The Breeze

The Breeze is wholly owned by Celador Radio Ltd. It will provide an easy listening music-based service with local news and information for Bath and the surrounding area....

The licence is for a service, on 107.9 MHz, to cover the city of Bath which has a population (aged 15+) of around 82,000.

Ofcom expects the new station to start broadcasting its service soon after the current licence expires in November. However, it could launch earlier than this if it can reach agreement with the current licensee.

Ofcom will soon publish a statement setting out the key determining factors for the award of this licence. The licence will be issued for a seven year period.
