Noted Tabla Exponent Pt. Girdhar Prasad Jaipurwale is no more

MUMBAI: Pt. Girdhar Prasad Jaipurwale, the noted tabla exponent of the Jaipur-Goswami gharana, passed away on 28th Jan 2009, at 4.30am. He was 62 years old and is survived by his wife and two sons.

He was the son of the renowned musician Late Guni Gandharva Pt. Laxman Prasad Jaipurwale and the brother of another illustrious musician Late Pt. Govind Prasad Jaipurwale. Pt. Girdhar Prasad Jaipurwale accompanied many a renowned musicians like Pt. Ravi Shankar, Pt. Vijay Raghav Rao, Ustad Ali Akbar Khan, Ustad Ashish Khan, Shri Jagjit Singh to name a few.

Pt. Girdhar Prasad was also an accomplished lyricist and is known for penning compositions for many a singers. He has also authored many books on music. Pt Girdhar Prasad was conferred upon the prestigious title of "Taal Mani" by the Sur Singar Samsad. The music firmament has lost a shining jewel and would be difficult to be replaced.
