Music executive Gary Marella launching Roma Records label

MUMBAI: Gary Marella is a music entrepreneur responsible for breaking some of the biggest artists in the music business (such as Lil Wayne, Akon, Drake, Nelly, 3 Doors Down, Erykah Badu, Jack Johnson, Blue October, Birdman, Kid Cudi and more) over the past decade at Universal Motown Records  Before his departure in 2009, Marella was most recently the Senior Vice President of Promotion where he oversaw the radio and video promotion departments for the US market in addition to signing 2 bands, Tamarama and Barcelona  During his years at Universal Records Marella moved up the corporate ranks quickly being promoted several times from National Director to V.P. Rhythm Promotion then to V.P. Promotion then most recently Senior V.P. of Promotion which was announced in 2006 by Chairman Sylvia Rhone. "Gary possesses the rarest of qualities in a promotion executive. He has a special insight into the changing complexities of promotion and exemplary instincts when it comes to expanding the reach of our artists," said Rhone.

Marella is now the founder of his own record label, Roma Records as well as his management, marketing and touring company, Del Mar Entertainment  Roma Records is distributed through Blackground/ Interscope Records where his first artists Jordy Towers is slated to come out the end of 2010 or early 2011. Del Mar Entertainment has already packaged tours with Live Nation and consulted such record labels as Cash Money, Konvict Muzik, J Records, Sony, Atlantic and Def Jam. Del Mar's artist management division continues to grow beyond just music to include artists in varying realms of entertainment such as his newest signing, international star Lior Suchard who Marella just recently signed to a new deal with United Talent Agency for representation.

Previous to his tenure at Universal Motown Records, Marella worked at Priority Records, specializing in Hip Hop where he was influential in breaking the careers of such acts as Jay-Z (the label of his first release, 'Reasonable Doubt'), Master P, Snoop Dogg and Ice Cube, to name a few. Marella first entered the music industry over 15 years ago through Interscope Records, where he started in publishing and eventually discovered promotion.

As an active member of the community, Marella is involved with charities such as The Art of Elysium, an arts-based charity that encourages working artists to voluntarily dedicate their time and talent to children who are battling serious medical illnesses.
