MUMBAI: A trained classical singer, the 22 year old American Idol contestant Gurpreet Singh Sarin, has been endearingly given the nickname ‘The Turbanator' on the show and has a collection of at least 40 to 50 turbans which he rotates with every outfit.

He said, "I believe I can bring my creativity and colorfulness to American Idol. I have never been so star-struck, I am ecstatic. With my background in Indian Classical singing I think I stand a very strong chance."

From teaching Ryan Seacrest to perform the traditional Punjabi ‘Bhangra’ (complete with the ‘brrruuuuaaaahhhhh’) to winning over the judges with his pleasant personality, Gurpreet Singh Sarin is definitely one of the highlights of this season. While auditioning in the first round, he performed a soulful rendition of the Maroon 5 hit ‘Sunday Morning’ and even sang a few Indian scales at Randy Jackson’s request.

Mariah Carey appears to be into him, Randy Jackon is intrigued, while Nicki Minaj even stated "Well Turbanator I love your look." Sarin decided to bribe her with a bright marigold turban to get into her good books. And just like that the lovable Sarin makes the cut.

Commenting on making it through the first round, he stated, “There are times when people give-up because they assume that their identity will act as an obstacle. That is not true! If you put in 100%, you can accomplish anything! My passion for singing and music gave me the strength and motivation to audition.”

Next stop for Sarin is Hollywood Week. The Turbanator confidently takes to the stage but what remains to be seen is whether Indian origin contestant Gurpreet Singh Sarin aka The Turbantor, whose first audition performance floored the judges, makes it through the gruelling Hollywood Week.

Judge Nicki Minaj has already picked him as one of her favourites in the competition. During his group performance she even yelled, "That's my BoBo... He's got the pink turban."  Even the other judges seem fascinated by him.

While judge Randy Jackson exclaimed, "Yeah... That pink turban's rocking. Makes me wanna wear one," the blue-eyed boy Keith Urban light-heartedly joked, "Oh, I'd be Keith Turban, by the way."

With Nicki Minaj on his side, Gurpreet Singh Sarin aka the Turbanator seems to be well on his way to American Idol glory. But will the other judges support him?
