IndiaBeat launches Amit Heri's album 'Elephant Walk'

MUMBAI: Highly acclaimed jazz guitarist Amit Heri's album Elephant Walk... has been released by music label IndiaBeat and is distributed by EMI Virgin.

Elephant Walk... features Matthew Garrison on bass, Peter Rende on keys, Marko Djordjevic on drums, Matt Renzi on sax and Praveen Rao on Indian percussions along with Amit  on guitars. The album was recorded in New York in 1998 and was released the following year by Amit Heri on his label. In 2008 IndiaBeat took it up as a project to give this album wider publicity that it richly deserves and has repackaged the album  However the music remains as fresh as the day it was written.

Having studied on a scholarship at the Berklee College of Music, USA Amit has performed with various internationally known artists including Charlie Mariano, Aka Moon, Zakir Hussain, Ramamani and the Karnataka College of Percussion, Trilok Gurtu, Matt Garrison, Robert Miles, Salif Keita and Angelique Kidjo. He has scored music for feature films (including Morning Raga...), dance and theatre productions.

Amit is one of a few Indian musicians to perform at major international music festivals (Berlin Jazz Festival, Montreux Jazz Festival, London Jazz Festival, Paris Jazz Festival, Rome World Music Festival, WOMAD Festival, World Social Forum and many more).

Amit Heri grew up listening to the blues, Indian and western classical, rock and jazz. The objective of the AMIT HERI GROUP is to share a personal journey through music that highlights the commonality between musical cultures.

IndiaBeat (www.indiabeat.in), which has had a popular presence on the Internet as an online radio station and MySpace since 2006, covers the genres of Indian classical, jazz, progressive rock and fusion music. The music label was launched in June 2008.
