DJ Manish wins Mumbai city Mirchi Mix finals

MUMBAI: On Sunday night, Mumbai hosted the city finale of Radio Mirchi and Kingfisher Strong Power Soda’s ‘Mirchimix’, one of India’s biggest hunts for aspiring DJs.

The call for entry phase received tremendous response. Mumbai is one of the ten cities in which such City-Finales will be happening over the month, in which the top 3 DJ will battle it out to be crowned the City Winner. DJ Manish showed the most promising talent in Mumbai, when he wooed and entertained the young audience with his groovy music and foot-tapping tunes, while DJ Remy & DJ Pawan showed tremendous talent as well.

The three talented DJs had to impress the evergreen king of Disco, the versatile Bappi Lahiri, DJ Akhil Talreja, and RJ Prackruti.  It was a daunting task for the venerable judges to choose just one winner amongst the three competing DJs, for they were, at the end of the day mixing the blockbuster, eternally popular disco songs of the one and only, Bappi Da.

Also present for the event the entire cast and crew of the Dhumketu Punatar’s upcoming movie – It’s Rocking Dard-E-Disco including Rituparna, Aryeman, Asrani and Arun Bakshi.

From here, the selected DJs of each city will finally get a one in a million opportunity, craved by every DJ composer - to perform live for a massive audience, with a living legend who has shaped disco music in India. A chance to show their talent alongside Bappi Da at the Grand Finale of Radio Mirchi and  Kingfisher Strong Power Soda’s  ‘Mirchimix’ at Nicco Park, Kolkata.

Radio Mirchi Senior VP Shamik Talukdar said, “Radio Mirchi has always leveraged brands through a strong focus on innovative and unique content. Mirchimix is classic example of Mirchi’s prowess in refreshing music in a new avatar. Bappi Lahiri has been a part of Radio Mirchi events for a long time and it gives me great pleasure to know that he will be leading this property from the front. We are really thrilled with the astounding response from Mumbai. I am looking forward to the exciting prospect of the untamed raw talent of the DJs of other cities as well. I would also like to thank all our sponsors for their support in this endeavor.”

Commenting on the initiative, United Breweries senior VP marketing Samar Singh Sheikhawat said, “Kingfisher Strong has been actively involved in showcasing and promoting Indian music. The aim is to bring out the best among the Indian youth whilst ‘Celebrating Indian Music’. This is our second year of association with MirchiMix; the folk music theme received a great response last year and the disco theme this edition is sure to capture the imagination of the contestants! Being associated with a renowned musician like Bappi Lahiri is also a leveraging factor in bringing together music enthusiasts and DJs. Given the amount of talent that will be unearthed out of this show, Kingfisher strong is delighted to be a part of this campaign.”

Manish qualifies for the national finals of Mirchi Mix which has a grand prize of Rs five lakhs. He will pit his DJing skills against two other finalists at Calcutta’s Nicco Park in the audience of Lahri next month.
