MUMBAI: Linkin Park has made good on their promise of going back to their heavier sound. On Sunday, the band released a new track 'Wasteland' from its upcoming album 'The Hunting Party'. An accompanying lyric video has also been released with the new track.

The track opens with heavy guitar work and drumming, while Shinoda returns to rapping. True to the band's sound, Chester belts out the chorus with some very powerful vocals. The track reminds you more of their older sound, albeit, slightly more mature. But what the track does have is loads of energy, an element that was more often than not, absent from the band's previous album.

This is the band's third lyric video from 'The Hunting Party', which is their sixth studio album, and is set for release on 17 June 2014. The new album will feature guest appearances by musicians, who Shinoda says, have been influential in shaping the band's sound. This will include rapper Rakim, Page Hamilton (vocalist-guitarist for Helmet), Daron Malakian (guitarist for System of a Down) and Tom Morello (Rage Against the Machine).

So far Linkin Park has released three tracks from 'The Hunting Party'. The other two are 'Until It's Gone' and 'Guilty All the Same'. Currently, the band is busy touring Europe, and later in August 2014 will kick off a 25-date tour of North America called 'Carnivores', which they will co-headline with 30 Seconds to Mars. The tour will also feature AFI.
