MUMBAI: Sukhwinder Singh, who has been widely appreciated for his songs like Chaiyya Chaiyya', and more recently, the Grammy winning Jai Ho' has now joined the singer-turned-actor bandwagon.

At a press conference held in Mumbai on  Monday, Sukwinder Singh announced his acting debut in a social message oriented film titled Khudi Ko Kar Buland Itna, where he will be seen playing the lead role.

After hearing the films story, I felt I could do it,... Singh said at the press conference. In the various promotional posters, Singh appeared dapper and seemed he had been working out for the role, but Singh maintained, I haven't really prepared for the role because I have to talk about the same values that I had grown up with – it came very naturally to me....

On his drift towards acting, Singh said, I don't have to launch myself as an actor, I got into this because the films subject supports issues that promote positivity in the society, and I will always support such endeavors in future too,... he added.

Apparently, director of the film Jagbir Dahiya revealed that Singh was cast because of his singing talents, We were yet to decide about the cast, however, we had one of the songs ready which Sukhwinder was singing. I really liked the way he sang and the energy he displayed in the recording studio, which reminded me of the lead character Rishi'
I was looking for – I told him that I'd like him to act in my film, and after hearing the story line, he agreed,... said the director.

Majority of the films cast are newcomers, and this includes Punjab based composer Omkar Raina, speaking about the songs, Raina said, The film will have six songs ranging from soulful to peppy beat numbers,...
he said. This would be Raina's first film as a composer. Prior to this, he has worked for music on Akshay Kumar's live shows, he said.

The lyrics and dialogues for the film are by Salim Bijnori.

B-GRADE BOX OFFICE BOMBER?

From the first look of the film, it seems Singh will be joining the list of other singer-turned-actors like Sonu Niigaam, Lucky Ali and most recently Himesh Reshammiya who have faced severe criticism for their acting drifts.

Khudi Ko Kar Buland Itna appears like any B-grade pot boiler, where the actor is seen shaking a leg, sporting a gun, and spewing mediocre dialogues. Will Sukhwinder be able to break the singer-turned-actor jinx? Lets wait and watch.
