MUMBAI: Oscar winner Resul Pookutty is all set to release his autobiography entitled Sabdatharapadham' (meaning, the sound of the milky way) on 13 May, to be published by Penguin India.

The 400 page tome, detailing over eight months of labour will contain Pookutty's personal experiences, his projects, life at the Film and Television Institute of India, where he learnt sound designing, to the time when he picked up the sound world's greatest honours. Pookutty prefers to call the book a "travelogue" rather than a autobiography.

Though Pookutty is not a writer, he says, "I was into the habit of writing diaries - it's something that my baba (his father) had instilled in me."

The book is co-authored by Baiju Natrajan.

"Baiju Natrajan took me to a place out of Mumbai, and we recorded everything that I had to say -  later, we transcribed the entire thing which ran to almost 3000 pages, and then we edited and re-edited it until and made it into a 400 page book.." he says.

Not many know that, Pookutty had laughed off the offer when he was first approached to write a book on his own life.

"After the Oscar win, I was completely out of touch with what was happening in Mumbai. There were a lot of different kind of offers pouring in. But when I was offered to write an autobiography, I laughed it off. But the publishers were very persistent, they pursued me, and when they told me that 'there are people who want to hear you', that line struck me, and I thought of taking it up," he says

While the Malayalam version of the book will be releasing first, the English version, which still remains untiltled, will be released in a period of four months.
