Robin Thicke's 'Blurred Lines' beats Adele's 'Someone Like You'

MUMBAI: No controversy could hold back Canadian musician- Robin Thicke's track 'Blurred Lines' from becoming the most downloaded track in UK music history. The song also features vocals from rapper T.I. and singer/ music producer Pharrell Williams.

According to the Official Charts Company's new countdown, the chart-topper has sold a record-breaking 1.54 million copies since its release in May 2013.

The track is part of Thicke's sixth studio album with the same name 'Blurred Lines'. The album was also nominated at the 56th Annual Grammy Awards in the Best Pop Vocal Album category.Thicke considers this achievement as a dream come true for him.

The lyrics of the track were tagged derogatory and sexist by women's rights groups and the video featured Thicke surrounded by semi-naked dancing models, making it talked about amongst his fans and critics.

Even the singer's performance at the MTV Video Music Awards with Miley Cyrus, last year drew criticism.'Blurred Lines' has now beaten Adele's 'Someone Like You', which has sold 1.53 million copies. These are now the only two tracks to have more than 1.5 million downloads in the UK. The fastest growing new million-seller is Pharrell Williams' 'Happy', which has now surpassed 1.3 million sales– making it the ninth biggest selling download of all time.

The All-time Official Download chart top five is completed by 2011's 'Moves Like Jagger' by Maroon 5 feat. Christina Aguilera; 2011's 'Somebody That I Used To Know' by Gotye feat. Kimbra; and 2009's 'I Gotta Feeling' by the Black Eyed Peas.
