MUMBAI: Billboard's Rising Star winner for 2013- Janelle Monae will soon be embarking on a tour of Australia and New Zealand, and will be joined by Kiwi singer Kimbra. The two will co-headline a five-city tour of both countries next month beginning with Perth on 16 May.

According to Live Nation's Australasian division, Monae and Kimbra will be performing their sets separately with their respective bands, and will also perform together. After Perth, the tour, which is titled 'Golden Electric Tour', will see the two singers perform at Sydney (19 May), Brisbane (21 May), Auckland (24 May) and close at Melbourne (26 May).

The statement offered by the tour promoter stated that Monae and Kimbra thought-up the joint tour concept last July when the two caught up at the Montreux Jazz Festival. The singers apparently bonded over their love for Prince and eventually jammed together at a Swiss bar.

Tickets for the upcoming tour will be available to the general public from Thursday 17 April onwards.

Meanwhile, award winning Monae has enjoyed a relatively successful year. The 'Tightrope' singer's second studio album called 'The Electric Lady' which was released in 2013 managed to place at number five on Billboard's Top 200.

Kimbra, on the other hand is said to be releasing her sophomore album sometime later this year. The New Zealand native gained popularity after her duet with Gotye on the smash hit "Somebody That I Used To Know'' which released in 2012.
