U2's 'Invisible surpasses 3.13 million downloads for RED

MUMBAI: Within 36 hours of it being available as a free download, U2's latest track 'Invisible' raised over $3 million for RED. Prior to the 60 second segment of the track at the Super Bowl, Bank of America agreed to donate $1 for every free download of the track to the Global Fund, which fights Aids, Malaria and TB.

Although the original pledge was $2 million, Bank of America surpassed the number as more than three million from all over the world downloaded the track. The final total donated towards RED was a whooping 3,138,470. The track is now available on iTunes for purchase at 99p and proceeds will go to the Global Fund.

'Invisible' has been produced by Danger Mouse and has been mixed by Tom Elmhirst. A video for the new track is also set to be released later in the week. The video will be directed by American director Mark Romanek, who has the films One Hour Photo and Never Let Me Go to his credits.The Global Fund provides testing, prevention services and life saving HIV/ AIDS treatments to millions of people from the poorest countries of the world. The funds raised through the Super Bowl initiative on Sunday is part of a two year, $10 million commitment that was recently announced by Bank of America.

Since its inception in 2006, RED has already donated over $250 million to the Global Fund. The organisation was founded by U2 lead singer Bono, along with Bobby Shriver in an attempt to increase corporate donations to help fights AIDS.
