MTV crowns Miley Cyrus Artist of the Year

MUMBAI: Twerk queen Miley Cyrus has been crowned MTV's Artist of the Year, which is no surprise considering she was one of the most talked about celebrities in 2013. The former Hannah Montana star set tongues wagging after her duet of 'Blurred Lines' with singer Robin Thicke at the VMAs in August. And since then, the 21 year old singer has been making the headlines for a number of reasons.

Whether it was her Terry Richardson photo shoot, her infinite love for flaunting her tongue or her very provocative 'Wrecking Ball' video, Cyrus shocked viewers and ensured she was always a topic to talk about. Explaining their decision to name her Artist of the Year, executives at MTV stated that there was definitely a method to Cyrus' madness.

MTV revealed that her performances- 'We Can't Stop' and 'Blurred Lines' were the most watched videos on their sites. Even the artist site dedicated specifically to Miley received more visits in comparison to any other artist. But apart from her onstage antics, Cyrus has also been in the news for her musical achievements. Her album's second single 'Wrecking Ball' reached number one on the charts, while her new album 'Bangerz' claimed the top spots in nine countries, including U.K and U.S.

MTV's Artist of the Year is selected by top MTV executives. Last year the award went to U.K boy band One Direction and the year before that it was given to pop singer Katy Perry.
