My voice in Besharam will do justice to Ranbir's role: Abhijeet

MUMBAI: Noted playback singer, Abhijeet Bhattacharya who made his name with Shah Rukh Khan is is all set to render his voice for Ranbir Kapoor in upcoming 'Besharam', directed by Abhinav Kashyap. The film, which hits screens 2 October, has Bhattacharya on the title track ‘Dil Ka Jo Haal Hai’ with Shreya Ghoshal- a ballad that can be expected to overwhelm the airwaves. Bhattacharya is confident that his voice and delivery of the film's title track will more than do justice to Ranbir's role and character.

”The director and (music director) Lalit Pandit were looking for a fresh material- a song with a fragrance and a melody. They wanted a fresh voice and selected me. And I can say my voice and the song are fresh- it reminds me of my earlier work with Shah Rukh Khan and also (current star) Ranbir Kapoor. The film and the song will be long race horses and will be remembered for a long time. The directors cannot think of doing work which will not last forever," he said.

Bhattacharya, famous for his 'dreamsque' vocals, is in no hurry to sign playback contracts in the current scenario, where he feels the overall quality of songs has become 'barbaad' (spoilt). Being out the scene for four years is perfectly alright for the choosy singer who wants to involve himself in 'evergreen' songs and not short lived chart busters. He is also confident that his voice today is as youthful as when he was Shah Rukh Khan's voice in the 90s and early 2000s in songs such as 'Chand Tare Tod Lau' (Yes Boss), 'Tauba Tumhare Yeh Ishare' (Chalte Chalte).

”I don't feel I have been absent for four years, but like I'm fresh out of college. My voice has become younger and will fit the new generation of stars. It has improved and the Besharam song is so fresh. I am always learning- starting with Mohamed Rafi, Kishore Kumar to Lata and Asha Mangheskar," he concluded.
