Select Citywalk announces hunt for musical face on World Music Day

MUMBAI: Remember the fizzy-haired Farhan Akhtar from the 2008 film 'Rock On' who despite of his high-profile job, could not do without his love for music or Dilsher (Vicky Kaushal) of 'Zubaan' movie. He longed for that perfect platform to shed all his fear and inhibitions. Even after increasing acceptance for music as an art, a perfect platform is still a challenge for many.

Saluting the undying spirit of young performers and their bands, the destination mall of Delhi - Select Citywalk, Saket has come up with ‘battle of bands’ as an ode to World Music Day observed on 21 June. Christened as the hunt for musical face, the battle would witness top five bands battling for the title of Musical Face of Select Citywalk.

In times when Bollywood melodies steal most of the limelight, the mall is offering the contenders an opportunity to pen down and compose their own lyrics for Select Citywalk.

Top five bands will be selected from all the entries on 20 June, Monday who will then perform live on 24 June, Friday at the mall. The bands will not only perform the anthem for the mall, but will also put forward some of their own compositions.

The winner will walk away with a cash prize and the title of the Musical Face of Select Citywalk. The event will be judged by Ashish Chauhan - the lead vocalist of Delhi Indie Project and his partner Jasmine who is the female vocalist of the group.

Commenting on the event, Select Citywalk director Arjun Sharma said, “Rock bands in India are no longer about just the head-banging, but have come of ages and a new genre has emerged that follows independent music. With this new breed of musicians, this art is experiencing new dimensions. We are extremely excited to announce ‘Battle of Bands’, an initiative by our mall to acknowledge the budding musicians and we expect to take this to newer levels with each passing year.”

Tuning in further, the mall will also witness an exclusive Jugalbandi performance which would be a jamming session between and Indian and Western Musical instrument players and a flashmob to add to the ambience of the event.
