Frame/Frame releases new EP 'Flutter'

MUMBAI: Regarded as one of the more interesting and innovative young producers in the Indian indie electronica scene, Frame/Frame is out with a new EP, ‘Flutter’ to be released on 28 September, 2015.

The four-track EP is characteristic of Frame/Frame aka Nikhil Kaul’s aesthetics as a producer, and the result is a kaleidoscope of sounds that are texturally rich, smooth, crunchy, melodic, synthy, all at the same time.

“This is my fourth EP as Frame/Frame and I believe, ‘Flutter’ is my most complete work up until now. I have often spread myself thin when it comes to genres, and this EP is no different – it has elements of all the things I have loved as a musician and a listener over the years – from ambient electronica, bass music and techno to as far out as post rock,” he says.

‘Flutter’ features collaborations with other up-and-coming electronica producers such as the Delhi-based Curtain Blue on the dramatic, synth-laden dance floor friendly ‘Nymph’ while ‘Fragment’ featuring Big City Harmonics is a perfect example of two sonically adventurous producers feeding off each other to create an ambient –post rock track.

In ‘Flutter’, the title track of the EP, Frame/Frame turns to long-time collaborator and friend Garima to produce a tune that is melancholic in tone and opulent in texture.

The EP will be released on Lowlit, an initiative started by him and his friend and peer Soulspace that has Kaul very excited. “We want to push forward-thinking music from India, regardless of genre or style. We have often felt that there is a massive pool of electronic music talent around us but often gets lost in the corners of the internet. More than anything, the idea is to build a community of like-minded artists and listeners to share what we believe is some truly amazing music,” Kaul elaborates.

‘Flutter’ the EP is the first release on Lowlit.
