The newest addition to the Bollywood fraternity - Rajnigandha Shekhawat

MUMBAI: With over 400 concerts worldwide under her belt which includes a 'Coke Studio' appearance, singer Rajnigandha Shekhawat has literally done it all. From working for a film marketing company to being one of the five voices behind 'Badrinath Ki Dulhaniya' title track, this fine lady has really covered a long journey.

A Sangeet Visharad, Rajnigandha started off as a student of Hindustani Classical music under the Gwalior Gharana at Pandit Jasraj Institute for Music Research. In 2009 she released her album 'Banna Re' a folk album which she used as her demo to get work and slowly build her way into the industry. “This album, along with two others, got me contracts for jingles, gigs and a whole bunch of work,” said the versatile singer.

Speaking of which Rajnigandha has extensive knowledge of a lot of genres. She claims to specialize in folk but she can pretty much rock the microphone if she feels like belting out a rock number or a semi-classical or in fact a pure classical piece. “I would sing western numbers too but I just did not want to develop an accent as that would really get into my way of singing Hindi numbers. So I would abstain from it but recently I have developed this interest in western music and I am taking lessons to get better at it.”

The singer expressed her love for Sia’s music and also said if given an opportunity she would love to collaborate with her. However, her real aspiration lies in working as a playback singer for Bollywood. “The kind of reach this industry has is unbelievable. Everyone wants to work for the big names and associate themselves with some quality projects. Hopefully ‘Badrinath Ki Dulhaniyaa’ will open up avenues for me in Bollywood.” The singer has lent her voice in the critically acclaimed movie, ‘Margarita with a Straw’ starring Kalki Koechlin and Anurag Kashyap's unreleased movie ‘Monsoon Shootout.’

This brimming talent wishes to strengthen her foundation here in Bollywood by increasing her repertoire of songs and also endlessly work on her talent. Radioandmusic.com wishes her all the best for her upcoming endeavours.
