Can Harshdeep Kaur recreate the magic of Jagjit Singh's 'Saaun Da Mahina'?

MUMBAI: What's the best way to pay tribute to your idol? By creating a cover version, of course.

Harshdeep Kaur, well known among music buffs for her songs ‘Ik Onkar’, ‘Kateya Karoon’, ‘Kabira’, is coming up with a new version of ‘Saun Da Mahina’ which was originally sung by Jagjit Singh. She released the teaser of the new version ‘Saaun Da Mahina' yesterday on her social media.

Kaur is well-known for her Sufi songs. While talking about her recent endeavour, the ‘Sufi Ki Sultana’ said, “This song was originally sung by Jagjit Singh and I have been a great fan of him. As it is raining in Mumbai since quite some time now, I was humming the song and came up with the idea of recreating it to pay a tribute.”

“This is my own version which is different from the original one. I have played the harmonium and kept the use of other musical instruments to a minimum. I am planning to release this on my YouTube channel during this weekend,” she revealed.
