Oppo launches its slimmest phone in India

MUMBAI: Oppo, the Chinese electronics manufacturer, has launched its slimmest phone called the Oppo R5 in India. The device’s width is 0.3 mm, which is slimmer that the current extremely slim phone, the Gionee Elife S5.1 and weighs merely 155 g.

The device boasts a 5.2-inch full HD AMOLED screen, a 64-bit Snapdragon 615 SoC, and 2GB of RAM along with a 5MP front camera and a 13MP rear camera. The Oppo R5 supports LTE radio and is powered with a 2,000 mAh battery. The Oppo R5 comes with the latest connectivity options: 4G LTE (including Indian 4G bands), 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0 and GPS. However, it has no microSD memory expansion, only 16GB of internal storage. The phone operates on ‘Color OS 2.0’, which is an Android 4.4 based OS. A major drawback in the device is the lack of a 3.5mm headphone connector, so music lovers will have to use a bundled micro-USB adapter or Bluetooth.

Commenting on the launch, Oppo India CEO Tom Lu said, “This phone has been developed with the end user in mind. We used cutting-edge manufacturing techniques to create a phone that fits perfectly into the users' hands, and that feels incredible. The frame has been forged nine times and then finished by hand to give a perfect sheen and feel. It has a quality that is not available anywhere else in the industry. The R5, like the rest of the R series delivers a truly stylish, exquisite and distinctive design and will continue to delight our customers with its innovative yet practical functions."

The Oppo R5 is priced at Rs 29,990.
