Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na

Music director- AR Rahman

Director- Abbas Tyrewala

Producer- Aamir Khan, Mansoor Khan

Our Rating: 3/ 5

After a long time, the Hindi film industry has dished out a 100 percent youth film, Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na. And with A R Rahman scheming the music debut Abbas Tyrewala directed venture, a lot of expectations seep in. He offers some youthful and trendy numbers. Not everyday one hears Rahman giving music so mainstream. The album has eight tracks going well with the mushy campus flick. The songs are penned by Tyrewala himself, carrying forward the current trend of Hinglish.

'Kabhi kabhi Aditi zindagi' is definitely the pick of the album. Sung by newcomer Rashid, the song is melodious and is bound to strike a chord with the listeners. Rashid sounds smooth with the vocals and utilizes the platform to the fullest. His voice seems to be the perfect foil to Imraan Khan. The piece has a nice unplugged feel to it, which is rare. It is sure to hit the bull's eye.

Anupama, Benny Dayal, Blazee, Tanvi, Darshana, Satish Subramanium and Aslam have come together to sing the next track called 'Pappu Can't Dance'. The lyrics don't have a lasting impact. Rahman, with a bunch of singers, has tested something different from the usual he does. It is a hard attempt to stitch weird lyrics and catchy tunes together to make a song. Its remixed version sounds peppy though. The track is definitely the black sheep of the album.

'Nazrein milaana nazrein churaana' is a youthful track sung by a bevy of singers which comprises Benny dayal, Satish Chakravarthy, Naresh Iyer, Shwetha, Tanvi, Bhargavi and Anupama. It certainly is a nice sing-along track, which goes well with the theme of the film.

'Jaane tu mera kya hai' has two versions sung by newcomer Runa and Sukhwinder Singh. The song has a somber mood and is on the lines of 'Zara Zara' and 'Tanhaiye.' The male version sung by Sukhwinder has a haunting feel of lost love, conveying a down-to-the-dump feeling. It has soulful lyrics giving a lot of meaning to it.The next track 'Kahin to hoga' has Rashid singing once again along with the versatile Vasundhara Das. A soothing number, Rashid showcases his singing skills to the fullest. This romantic track will be an instant hit with the people in-love.

'Tu bole mein boloon' sung by the wizard himself has a classic Hollywood touch to it. The song is about how boys and girls have different perspectives to the same thing. The track has elements of jazz in it. Using instruments like drums, saxophone, the song is more like a live rendition.

The music of the album is peppy and youthful. Though the album has freshness, one undoubtedly expects better compositions from Rahman's stable. Though his splendid compositions for Jodha Akhbar didn't work with the mass, let's see if this one finds a place in their hearts.
