Vikas Varma quits 9XM to join MTV, Ashish Patil moves up

MUMBAI: Vikas Varma has quit 9XM to join MTV as creative and content head. Meanwhile, MTV India GM and VP Ashish Patil has been elevated to senior VP of new ventures.

Patil will join Kamat's team to also don the hat of GM - Youth Movies. In his new role, he would work with Kamat on exploring growth opportunities for Viacom18.

Patil, who has been with MTV for over a decade now, took over as senior VP, creative and content after the exit of  Cyrus Oshidar in late 2006. A host of shows like Splitsvilla, Rock On, Stunt Mania Gang Next, and the new VJ hunt that was launched last month.

At 9XM, meanwhile, after the sudden exit of Varma, it is expected that an announcement on his successor will be made in a couple of days. When contacted, Varma told Radioandmusic.com, "I have quit 9XM today and will be joining MTV tomorrow." Varma comes to MTV with a huge experience in advertising - having worked with Frank Simoes Advertising, Madison Advertising, as well as in the media space - he has been UTV COO and national programming head at Radio City before moving to 9XM  in March 2007.
