Times Music unveils Pankaj Udhas' new album 'Shayaar'

MUMBAI: Pankaj Udhas, the man with the velvety voice and the heartthrob of young gazal lovers comes out with a new album titled Shayaar'.

The album was launched yesterday by Pandit Jasraj, a veteran Indian classical vocalist

Udhas was first noticed as a professional singer in the film Naam in 1986, in which his song 'Chitthi Aayee Hai' became an instant hit, and today he has numerous albums to his credit

His album â€?Shaayar' is a tribute to the legendary poet Daagh. The singer has explored the poet in great depth. Daagh's poetry had a beautiful blend of basic Hindi-Urdu words, which are easily understood by people. Even though greats like Begum Akhtar and others have sung Daagh's poetry in the past, this is the first time in the recent years that any singer has attempted to dedicate a whole album to this one man who we call a genius. It will enthrall his traditional fans with classic poetry, presented in a very contemporary form

The talented duo Abbass – Bajwa has composed music for the album

â€?Shaayar' introduces current generation to a range of classic poetry and consists of eight tracks. They are Ghazab Kiya, Aap Ka Aitbaar Kaun Kare, Khaatir Se Ya Lihaaz Se, Dil Gaya Tumne Liya, Ranj Ki Jab Guftgu, Kyun Churaate Ho, Wayeez Bada Maza Ho and Zabaan Hilao To

The singer also crooned two tracks (Dil Gaya Tumne Liya and Ghazab Kiya) from the new album at Landmark Bookstore, Mumbai. His performance was captivating and created an air of serenity and calm

Times Music COO Adarsh Gupta along with Hyderabadi gazal singer Talat Aziz and bhajan maestro Anup Jalota graced the occasion with their presence.
