T-Series, Vishesh Films join hands again for Jashn

MUMBAI: With T-Series snapping up music rights for Vishesh Films' upcoming film Jashn, the feud that the two companies engaged in last year over the rights of Jannat, seems to have melted away.

Jashn, according to producer Mukesh Bhatt, is likely to create a wave akin to that created by Vishesh Films' 1983 film Aashiqui, with its music. The film purportedly has Indian as well as Pakistani composers scoring the music.

Says T-Series Vinod Bhanushali, "Yes, Jashn is our next big ticket title, and we have great hopes from the music of this film." After a spate of duds like Victory and Mere Khwabon Mein Jo Aaye that started the year on a sour note for the label (the music sales of Chandni Chowk to China did fairly well till the film released), Jashn is something the label is looking forward to. The last two films T-Series partnered Vishesh Films were Woh Lamhe and Killer. While Bhanushali says the music of both Billoo Barber and Dev D is doing well for the company, Vishal Bharadwaj's Kaminay and Mein Aur Mrs Khanna are two other film titles that might spell big success for T-Series.

Although big names like Ghajini and Slumdog Millionaire also released in 2008, it was Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na, whose music was the biggest success story of the year for the music label. The music of Slumdog has reaped pleasantly unexpected dividends with the physical sales also doing well. Bhanushali however refuses to put a figure to the sales, saying the sales are still on and the nominations for the Bafta and the Oscars is adding to the appeal of the film's music.

The Bhatts have been quoted as saying that Jashn might do Jannat also in the music department. Jashn, that could release by the end of this year, will introduce Sharib as a music director. Jashn is about a 19 year old boy Akash (played by Adhyayan Suman), and his ambition to become a rockstar in life. He is a part of this band called 'Jashn'. The film is basically about his pursuit to success and happiness, whilst becoming a musician.

In early 2008, T-Series and Vishesh Films locked horns over the copyrights of audio/visuals of songs of 'Jannat', the rights of which eventually went to Sony BMG.
