Red FM awards laud the awful, in style

MUMBAI: Many chappals were hurled on Friday evening at the fourth edition of the Red FM Bajaate Raho Awards held at the Chitrakoot grounds in Andheri, Mumbai.

With celeb look alikes going on stage to receive the Bajaate raho ghanta', it was a perfectly starry evening with singers and television stars making their presence felt as many other of their ilk got their share of brickbats.

A Pritam look alike was on hand to pick up the Sabse zyaada mehnat karnewala music director award' for plagiarizing the track, Pehli Nazar' from Race. The other music category winners included Mayur Puri and Bimal Oberoi, who were 'honoured' in the Is saal ke waheeyad pankhtiya' category for penning lyrics lie Tujhe Ghodi Kinne Chadaya Bhootni ke... in the Akshay Singh is King.

The awards were spread across categories like Bollywood, music, cricket, television and city special awards. Hosted by Sunil Grover and RJs- Dr Hoezay, Malishka, Mantra, Tarun, the awards also saw some celebs that added to the glam quotient. Sunil Grover stole the show with regular doses of humour throughout the show.

The awards night opened with an enthralling performance by item girl Sambhavna Seth followed by singers Mohit Chauhan, Mahi Gill, Anand Raj Anand and Shradha Pandit, Indian Idol winner Sourabhee and the finale, that was performed by a disinterested Kangana Ranaut. Mahi Gill's dance to the tunes of Beedo' and Ranaji' from Gulaal had a reciprocal reaction from a section in the audience that stood up to join her step for step.

The winner in the Bollywood category included Drona for Super pit film award, and Harman Baweja for the 'Baap ka naam doobo diya' award.

Sports commentator Charu Sharma was present to give away awards in the cricket category. The 'on-field dramebaaz' award went to Harbhajan Singh for hitting Sreesanth, while the 'Cricket gaya tel lene' award was conferred on liquor baron Vijay Mallya for giving more importance to cheer leaders than cricketers.

The television winners included MTV Roadies' Raghu Ram, and Payal Rohatgi for judging Sambhavna Seth's character in Big Boss.

Among the city special awards, Mumbai's Bandra Worli Sea Link was awarded by mayor Shulbha Raul, Delhi's Blue Line Bus and Kolkata ki shaan award for Bus Drivers. Mad vigyapan angle award wend to Amitabh Bhachchan's Balm ad.

After the awards function, Red FM COO Abraham Thomas told Radioandmusic.com, Red FM Bajate Raho awards are undoubtedly the differentiated awards in the industry. It is about empowerment of listeners as the results are decided by the listeners across our Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata stations.

Truly, the people's voice has been heard, we at Red FM believe in reflecting the voice of the people through all initiatives and the Bajaate Raho Awards does that in good effect....

He further added, The awards and the nominations are supposed to be taken lightly and clearly the audiences' today have a sense of humour to take it in the right spirit. Therefore, while Red FM itself plays hit songs like Tha Tha Karke' or Aksa beach', the listeners who on the one hand, dance to these hit songs also find the lyrics funny! The Bajaate Raho Awards reflect this duality....

Red FM Bajaate Raho Awards are only getting bigger and better having won two WOW awards for events and experiential marketing and with an on-ground televised presentation ceremony since last year. The event will be telecast on Sony on 5 April 2009 at 6 pm.
