Panjabi MC renders first bollywood track in 'Mere Dad Ki Maruti'

MUMBAI: Renowned music producer Rajinder Singh Rai, better known by his stage name Panjabi MC has made his debut in bollywood with Yash Raj Films (YRF) ‘Mere Dad Ki Maruti’ (MDKM). The artiste has scored and rendered the track ‘Haaay’.

His first original bollywood track also features vocals of Manak-E, and is picturised in a Punjab University campus replicating the popular ‘Gehri route’ feel that’s unique to Chandigarh. The video showcases various guys performing stunts on bikes, cycles, cycle rickshaws and tractors.

Commenting on his experience, Panjabi MC said, “It was a fantastic experience to score for Yash Raj Films, one of Bollywood’s biggest studios. The song ‘Haaay’ came to me with a very clear brief. Given that the story is set in Chandigarh, scoring Punjabi music is like second nature to me. Also, somewhere deep down, every boy loves his ‘gaddi’ (car), and that’s exactly what this song is all about, loving your ‘gaddi’ and your ‘kudi’ (girl).”

Panjabi MC has earlier achieved fame for his 1998 bhangra hit ‘Mundian To Bach Ke’. He has mainly produced albums and won accolades for his work in UK.

Composed by Sachin Gupta, the soundtrack comprises of six tracks penned by Kumar and rendered by various artistes including Mika Singh, Yo Yo Honey Singh, Diljit Dosanjh, Shalmali Kholgade, Sonu Kakkar and more.

The film narrates the story of a boy who sneaks his dad’s fancy new car out to impress the college hottie and how all hell breaks loose when he loses it. It stars Saqib Saleem, Ram Kapoor and Prabal Panjabi in lead roles and is directed by Ashima Chibber. It is slated to release on 15 March 2013.
