'Michael Jackson deserves to win a Grammy'

The biggest international music awards of the year, the 53rd Annual Grammys,  will be aired Live on Vh1 on Monday, 14 Feb,, at 6. 30 am, with a repeat the same night at 9 pm. We bring music lovers a series featuring the views of singers and composers like Vishal Dadlani, Uday Benegal, Luke Kenny, Hard Kaur and Monica Dogra examining this year's nominations and predicting winners. Today, Luke Kenny and Monica Dogra  share their views.

LUKE KENNY:

What do you think about the Grammy nominations this year?

You have most of the popular genres nominated for the most important category of Album Of The Year --  there's country, rap, indie-rock…  I think there are some great acts in every genre this year.

Do you think India could produce someone like Lady Gaga, and on that scale? And if yes, who could it be?

I'm sure we can. But if this were to happen, she's not born yet!  So we've gotta start now. It's this generation who will produce music heroes.

Who do you think could win?

I think all the artists deserve a win. The thing is I think Grammys will have to expand their nominations in each categories the way the Oscars did – they went from five nominations to 10. The Grammys will soon have to do the same because there is immense talent there.

MONICA DOGRA

What are your views on the  Best Male Pop Artist nominations for this year's Grammys?

Michael Jackson's nominated. I think John Mayers too is amazing. Adam Lambert and Bruno Mars are not really my scene,  but Lambert has some good tunes.

So what is it that you like about Lambert's music?

As an artist, Adam Lambert is an open book about everything, which is refreshing. Out of all the nominees I think it's maybe his song that I could hear again and again. Having said, that, I think Michael Jackson deserves to win. He was an amazing artist and it hurts that he's no longer with us.

What does one need to be a pop star?

Things that are human. Love, pain, struggle and fear appeal to the audience.
