Indian classical music stalwarts to perform at Swaranjali fest

MUMBAI: Renowned Indian classical music stalwarts including Ustad Amjad Ali Khan, Pandit Shiv Kumar Sharma, Pandit Mukul Shivputra, Pandit Vikku Vinayakram, Selva Ganesh and Taufiq Qureshi will perform at the Swaranjali music fest to be held from 3-5 January 2013 at Nehru Centre, Mumbai.

The three day music fest will witness the legends coming together to pay tribute to the late stalwarts of Hindustani vocalists Pandit Suresh Haldankar, Pandit Jitendra Abhisheki and Pandit C R Vyas.

The fest will commence with veteran vocalist Malini Rajurkar, followed by a performance of santoor maestro Pandit Shiv Kumar Sharma who has earned various accolades establishing himself as a national treasure and gaining worldwide fame.

One of the leading vocalists of India, Pandit Mukul Shivputra will kick-start the second day of the fest with his performance which will be followed by a Spandan musical ensemble by four internationally acclaimed artistes - Pandit Vikku Vinayakram, Selva Ganesh, Taufiq Qureshi and tabla genius Aditya Kalyanpur.

The music fest will conclude on 5 January with a performance by vocalist Meeta Pandit and a concert by veteran sarod legend Ustad Amjad Ali Khan.

The fest is organized by Swaraprabha trust and sponsored by Birla Sun-life Mutual Fund, Astarc, Central Bank of India, Birla White Cement, State Bank of India, Air India and ITC Grand Central.

Amit Karekar of Swaraprabha Trust said, “Swaranjali is shradhanjali or reverence to the Swars, the musical notes, in honour of the three great doyens of Hindustani classical music. Besides their brilliant performances, their contribution is immense, for they trained and guided several classical vocalists to carry on the great India musical tradition.”
