DRM to host 25th anniversary General Assembly

MUMBAI: Celebrating its 25th anniversary, the Digital Radio Mondiale (DRM) consortium will host its annual General Assembly meeting on 15-16 April in Halifax Canada.

The annual two-day conference will be attended by DRM members and supporters from around the world. They will review the year’s activity and set the strategy for the progress of DRM technology in the next twelve months.

Amongst the highlights on this year’s agenda will be the special presentations on the introduction of DRM in India, where All India Radio is following a rapid roll-out plan and DRM transmissions have already begun. Interesting developments in countries like Brazil, Australia, Korea and Norway will be also on the agenda. There will also be discussions on how the Consortium can help support the growing interest amongst the receiver manufacturers, as they look at planning and implementing a timely production of reliable, easy-to-use cheap DRM receivers for major markets.

DRM Consortium chair Ruxandra Obreja said, “The 25th General Assembly is shaping into being an important event in the DRM calendar with so many developments and challenges in all continents. Our members, old and new, are ready for the next phase when DRM is being rolled out and the DRM platform will give many listeners the extra benefits of digital radio in a most concrete sense.”

The General Assembly is stated to be the largest decision-making body of the DRM Consortium. It meets once a year to take stock of the Consortium’s activities and the progress made in spreading knowledge on the use and implementation of DRM digital radio technology.
