Coldplay strikes new deal with Universal

MUMBAI: Coldplay has signed a huge publishing deal with Universal Music for future songwriting, which is one of the biggest in music industry history, media reports.

The band, consisting of frontman Chris Martin, guitarist Jonny Buckland, bassist Guy Berryman and drummer Will Champion agreed their first contract in 1999 with BMG Music Publishing, before releasing first album Parachutes.

Now, with their fifth record due next year, they have penned fresh terms with Universal Music Publishing - who bought out the outfit.

Universal president Paul Connolly said, "They've sold more than 50 million albums worldwide and their huge success is entirely deserved. We're obviously very proud."
