Big Music forays into Marathi with Samaantar

MUMBAI: Big production and Big music have launched their first Marathi film venture, veteran filmmaker Amol Palekar's latest creation Samaantar. The music of the film was launched in Mumbai on 13 August.

The music of Samaantar' is very original and melodious. I'm sure the discerning Marathi listener will find this album to be a classic in the making,... says Big Music and Home Entertainment CEO Kulmeet Makkar.

Samaantar is set to release on 4 September 2009 and stars Amol Palekar and Sharmila Tagore in lead roles. Through Samaantar, Palekar will once again don the hats of actor and director thirty years after his film Ankahee. On other side, the legendary Sharmila Tagore would be acting in a Marathi film for the first time. The two prolific actors will be coming come together after their Bengali super hit film â€?Mother' in late 70s

The film is setting mark on several fronts, singers Shankar Mahadevan and Shreya Ghoshal, who are otherwise more popular for their Bollywood numbers, will be heard crooning to a melancholic marathi song 'Nuste Nuste' in the film.

Many non-Marathi singers like Hemant Kumar, Manna De, Mahendra Kapoor had lent their voices to Marathi film music. I am grateful to Amolji who offered me brilliant singers like Shankar and Shreya. Their accent is as Marathi as it could be,... says composer Anand Modak. The lyrics are penned by Kishore Kadam.

Present at the music launch of Samaantar was the film's entire star cast and crew – Amol Palekar, Samir Dharmadhikari, Aishwarya Narkar, Radhika Apte, Sandip Mehta, Rishi Deshpande, Makarand Deshpande, Vandana Gupte, story, screenplay & dialogue writer Sandhya Gokhale, lyricist Kishore Kada aka Saumitra, and music director Anand Modak.
