Back to Rafi - The unforgettable maestro

MUMBAI: Bhoolega Dil Jis Din Tumhe, Woh Din Zindagi Ka Aakhri Din Hoga…..Kya Hua Tera Wada.... Even today all Mohammed Rafi fans dedicate these heart-stirring lines to the only singer whose immortality can be vouched for. Almost two decades have been passed after his sad demise and yet his popularity and fan-following remain intact.

Walking down the memory lane on the legend's 30th death anniversary which is on 31 July, gives his fans a very gloomy feeling as Rafi was a singer par excellence and loosing a diamond like him was a huge loss for the Indian music industry 

Magical singers like Rafi are one in a million. He was not only a valley of talent but also a very good person by heart. Dil Ne Phir Yaad Kiya was the first film for which we had worked together and it was a memorable experience. 'Maine tere liye jag chhoda aur tune mujhe chhoda' are the lines I would like to dedicate him,... said music director Omi of the Omi-Sonik duo about the singer who churned out quite a few master pieces during the Golden Era of Bollywood 

Rafi has left behind a rich legacy of songs sung by him over more than 30 years and he has been a great inspiration to a large bunch of singers including Mohammed Aziz, Mahendra Kapoor and the current rulers of Bollywood like Udit Narayan and Sonu Niigaam. Niigaam started his career by singing Rafi's numbers 

To pay tribute to this versatile singer, musical groups Jeevan Gani and Musicolor have organized four consecutive concerts at four different locations from 29 to 31 July 

Kalabhushan Puraskar winner Shrikant Narayan often known as The voice of Mohammed Rafi... will be the lead male singer at all the four concerts. The lead female singer at this event will be Sarita Rajesh, the winner of seven consecutive episodes of Sa Re Ga Ma Pa. The qualified singer hails from Gwalior and is trained in classical music. She will be supporting Narayan and the duo will be belting out almost all Rafi hits.

Last year on the legend's 29th death anniversary, the twosome had lent their mellifluous vocals to songs like Jo waada kiya from Taj Mahal, Woh jab yaad aaye from Parasmani, Isharon isharon mein from Kashmir Ki Kali, Aaj kal tere mere pyar ke charche from Brahmachari and Mujhe kitna pyar hai tumse from Dil Tera Diwana 

This year audience can expect Rafi's hits from movies like Guide, An evening in Paris, Sehra, Birju Bawra and other prominent films,... promised one of the organisers of the event Rajesh Subramaniam. The duo Shrikant-Sarita will be backed by a team of 13 musicians, all of them have played for notable singers from the industry sometime or other....

The event will be conducted by Ajay Madan and compered by Sandeep Pancvhwatkar.

On: July 30 - At: Dinanath Mangeshkar Hall, Vile Parle, 8.30 pm onwards

On: July 31 - At: Gadkari Rangyatan, Thane, 8.30 pm onwards

On: August 1 - At: Vishnudas Bhave, Vashi, 8.30 pm onwards.
