Composer friends in Bollywood

MUMBAI: Tinsel town has its fair share of infamous controversies, verbal spats and washing the dirty linen in public. But there are a few celebs who have remained friends not just personally, but have taken their friendship to a different level by teaming up with each other professionally. On the occasion of Friendship Day, brings to you composer friends in Bollywood who have worked together to deliver unforgettable memories.

Shankar Ehsaan Loy (SEL)

Be it the rocking beats of ‘Koi Kahe’ from ‘Dil Chahta Hai’ or the soothing melody of ‘Kya Karun’ from ‘Wake Up Sid’, Shankar Mahadevan, Ehsaan Noorani and Loy Mendonsa have always composed mesmerising music. Bringing together their experiences and their talents, they have composed a number of chartbusters. SEL have been together for more than 20 years, they are often referred as the ‘Amar Akbar Anthony’ of Bollywood.

Sachin Jigar

The duo, Sachin Sanghvi and Jigar Saraiya have been together for a decade now. Their association dates back to the time when Sanghvi was composing for television and radio, and was juggling with a lot of projects. He was looking out for someone who could share his workload; this was when Amit Trivedi introduced him to Jigar Saraiya. Since then the duo have shared a bond and have teamed up for hits like ‘Jeene Laga Hoon’from, ‘Ramaiya Vastavaiya’, ‘Gulabi’ from ‘Shuddh Desi Romance’ and many more.

Shiv- Hari

Shiv-Hari refers to the Indian music director duo of Shivkumar Sharma, an eminent Santoor player and Hariprasad Chaurasia, a virtuoso flutist. The duo teamed up in the year 1967 and recorded an album ‘Call of Valley’. The duo even composed music for films like ‘Silsila’, ‘Faasle’, ‘Vijay’, ‘Chandni’ and a few more. They still perform together at live events and have toured multiple locations such as London and Singapore.

Lakshmikant Pyarelal

Laxmikant Shantaram Kudalkar and Pyarelal Ramprasad Sharma better known as ‘LP’ had been active from the year 1965 for the film ‘Dosti’. Laxmikant and Pyarelal met at Sureel Kala Kendra, a music academy for children, run by the Mangeshkar family. After Lata Mangeshkar found out about their financially poor backgrounds, Lata recommended their names to music directors like Naushad, Sachin Dev Burman and C. Ramchandra. Similarities led to Laxmikant and Pyarelal becoming very good friends. They used to spend long hours at the recording studios, sometimes getting work for each other and even playing together whenever they got the opportunity. Post a lot of struggles in the music industry the duo decided to team up and composed some hit numbers like ‘Sawan Ka Mahina’, ‘Dil Bil Pyar Vya’, ‘Kaise Rahu Chup’, ‘Bindiya Chamakegi’ and many more. After the death of Lakshmikant, Pyareelal arranged music for Shahrukh Khan and Deepika Padukone starrer, ‘Om Shanti Om’.

Nadeem Shravan

Nadeem Saifi and Shravan Rathod better known as Nadeem Shravan created their first film assignment ‘Dangal’, a Bhojuri movie. The duo rose to fame with the film ‘Aashiqui’ in 1990. And then ‘Saajan’, ‘Dil Hai Ki Manta Nahin’, ‘Sadak, Sainik’, ‘Raja, Dilwale’, and ’Raja Hindustani’. After an acquisition of being involved in Gulshan Kumar’s murder case Nadeem was declared innocent. Post this the duo did a few film together and the last being ‘Dosti’. Shravan was uninterested in continuing with his music, and instead focused on his son's music careers and movie production.
