City venues to pay tribute to King of Pop with special programming

MUMBAI: 25 June 2014 marks the 5th death anniversary of the pop legend Michael Jackson. For fans out there, it is a popular day when they get together with artistes to pay a tribute to the iconic performer.

'Shannon & the Silent Riot' along with special guests will be performing songs by the King of Pop at Hard Rock Café, Andheri on 26 June from 8:30 pm, and they promise not to stop until everyone has had enough. There will also be an exclusive flash mob performance at the venue. The band has, before, paid a tribute to other music legends- Bon Jovi and Bryan Adams, and they are known for their sick rock and roll grooves.

Shannon Pereira roped in some of the finest artistes of the city and created 'Shannon & The Silent Riot' in August 2012. The band includes Shannon Pereira on lead guitar and vocals, Prasad Salian on vocals, Crasto on the keyboard, Gavin Cason on rhythm guitar, Loy Henriques on the bass and Joshua Vaz on drums.

Founder of the band, Pereira is also the youngest exclusive artiste to be signed by Gibson USA in India at the age of 18 years. The band has been preparing for the MJ tribute night for almost a year and Pereira believes that this show is going to be huge. He says, "I am a big MJ fan and a Michael Jackson tribute has to be 'all out'! He was an entertainer and he was all about the show."

Manasi Scott, Tulsi Kapoor, Keisha Breganza and a few more stars will be joining them as guests. The band is also bringing a group of children under the project, 'Familia de Ouro' to share the experience with them. The project is an initiative undertaken by a few young Mumbaikars that aims at personal development and education of the children of Bainganwadi, a slum community in Shivajinagar (Govandi), Mumbai.

Pereira adds, "The setting is going to look visually grand and I am extremely excited. I want to put on a show that people here have not seen before. Plus, towards the end of the night, we have a surprise!"

Apart from Hard Rock Café, venues like blueFROG and Bonobo in the city will also host special events to pay tribute to Michael Jackson.

Chennai-based prog metal band NerveRek will be performing at blueFROG to pay tribute to the legendary singer on 25 June at 10 pm. The band is on a tour dedicated entirely to the pop king, starting with Pune, Mumbai and later Chennai.

The band believes that the King of Pop still lives on through his music and that there is no better way to celebrate his legacy than to get together and sing along to some of his most popular hits. They will be joined by guest stars, including singer Mihir Joshi.

Arjun Dhanaraj (vocals/guitar) of NereveRek says, "Michael Jackson has been an inspiration to all of us and he is the only musician who has been a constant favourite. We are really excited because tomorrow's show is going to be very special to us and we love blueFROG."

Bonobo will be hosting its annual tribute to Michael Jackson this Wednesday, June 25 with a night of good old-fashioned celebrations. DJ/Producer Pradeep Maharana and DJ/Electronic musician Amul Lokanathan will play MJ's greatest hits from some of his most iconic albums of all time including Thriller, Bad and Dangerous.

On 24 June, The Little Door, Andheri, hosted 'CROSSFIRES', a four piece band with Bipin Janavlekar leading the way with Anup Satam on the guitars, Nikhil Dhiwar on the Percussion and Sagar Rayaprolu on the Lead vocals. The band played Jackson's songs as a part of Acoustic Tuesdays.
