MUMBAI: 'Sun Raha Hai Na Tu' singer- Ankit Tiwari who was arrested for allegedly raping his girlfriend on 8 May, will remain in judicial custody, till 26 May reports state. Meanwhile, his brother Ankur Tiwari, who was also arrested, has secured bail.
Tiwari's lawyer Nagesh Mishra told told news agencies, "The prosecution sought his police custody as they wanted to recover Tiwari's mobile phone and some clothes. However, Railway Mobile Court Magistrate S.C. Jadhav granted the judicial custody."
After the arrest, Tiwari's family members and his lawyer said that he had not met the girl for a year. According to Mishra, Tiwari has been charged under Sections 376 (rape), 417 (cheating) and 493 (cohabitation by a man deceitfully inducing a belief of lawful marriage) of the Indian Penal Code.
According to reports, the victim hails from Lucknow and works in an event management company in Mumbai. The report further added that the Versova police in Mumbai said that the incident happened late last night. As per the allegation, Ankit and Ankur went over to the victim's house, where the singer raped her. His brother is alleged to have threatened her with dire consequences, if she reported the incident to anyone, by holding a knife to her neck.
