Metallica announced as headliner for Glastonbury Festival 2014

MUMBAI: After a lot of speculation about who will headline the main stage on Saturday night at this year’s Glastonbury Festival, it has been announced that the spot will be filled by American rock band Metallica. Organisers of the festival confirmed that the veteran rockers will perform on the famed Pyramid Stage, their first ever appearance at the festival.

The band took to their Twitter account to tweet the news of their Glastonbury gig. "Worst kept secret in rock and roll is now confirmed... see you at @GlastoFest on June 28th! #MetOnTour," the post said.

Speaking about bringing on board one of the most popular heavy metal bands, organiser Michael Eavis said, "Metallica are one of the most popular bands in the world, and they really are a phenomenal live act." He added that the band could sell out stadiums in countries all around the world, and that people always asked him when Metallica was going to play at the festival.

Metallica will join two other rock bands- Arcade Fire and Kasabian, who will also be headlining the festival on Friday and Sunday night respectively. Other music acts to perform on the main stage include Dolly Parton, Jack White, The Black Keys, Ed Sheeran, Lily Allen, Lana Del Ray and many others.

The Glastonbury Festival 2014 will take place from Wednesday, 25 June to Sunday, 29 June at Worth Farm, Pilton.
