Lakshmi has been a perspective changer for me: Monali Thakur

MUMBAI: For Indian Idol participant- Monali Thakur, the year 2013 had been extremely fruitful as her song 'Sawar Loon’ from the film Lootera won a Filmfare Award. This year, the singer also acted in the film 'Lakshmi’, which is based on the subject of child prostitution.

"It all started during a jam session with Abbas Tyrewala, for which Nagesh Kukunoor was also present. And I remember, about a month or so later, he called me up and offered me a role in the film," said Thakur while talking to Radioandmusic.com. The film is based on a 13-year old girl who is kidnapped and sold into prostitution. She is thrown into this horrific, inhuman world where she is raped and brutally beaten, while she struggles to survive with the help of the other girls and her own will is to never give in.

"Playing the character of Lakshmi was extremely difficult and also was an eye opener. It had been a perspective changer for me," explained the singer cum actress. She also sang a song, 'Aa Ghar Chale’ in the film Lakshmi.

Thakur has also been working on a single which will be released soon. For her upcoming film 'Mango’, she juggles between the role of an actor and a singer. "The song in 'Mango’ will be the best song of my career," concluded the 28 year old.
