Duo Bickram Ghosh- Sonu Nigam hope to leave a stamp on their music

MUMBAI: Music composer Bickram Ghosh and singer-turned-music composer Sonu Nigam had join hands for an album named 'Khamakha' a few years ago. However, their film projects 'Sooper Se Ooper' and 'Jal', which they started work on after the album, have seen the light of the day much faster. Currently, the duo is promoting the soundtrack of 'Jal' and has put the album on hold for a while.

The soundtrack of 'Jal' consists of 22 tracks, including vocals and instrumental tracks. The background score has also given by them. The Hindi lyrics of the film are penned by Nigam, while English verses are by Ghosh. "Jal is our first film for which we worked together. The process has been wonderful," said Ghosh. The duo started working together as they felt both of them have a similar vision in life. "The music we composed for 'Jal' had some eclectic mix," Ghosh added. Singers that are featured on the film album include Sonu Nigam, Shubha Mudgal, Ustad Ghulam Mustafa Khan and Suzanne.

Talking about any remixes for the film, he said that the only track that could be remixed is 'Zaalima'. "Other tracks in the film cannot be remixed as there is a sound and rhythm that should permit the remix," Ghosh stressed. 'Jal' is a film which is set in the Rann of Kutch. Directed by Girish Malik, 'Jal' will release in theatres on 4 April. It has already been featured in many film festivals.

Malik had given Ghosh and Nigam creative freedom with this film. "I am aware that the freedom we received for this film will not be the same while working with other film-makers. But that would not stop us from working. At the same time, we will not do anything against our dignity," Ghosh stressed. Talking about the new trends, he said we will write funky lyrics and have music that has our stamp.

Meanwhile, 'Khamakha', which the duo is working on, is complete and is in the mastering stage. Last year's, 'Sooper Se Ooper' was also composed by Ghosh-Nigam. Ghosh is currently working solo on a Bengali film and a fusion album. He has also collaborated with Rashid Khan for an album which will be out soon.
