Special awareness campaign on AIR for Amarnath yatra

MUMBAI: The annual pilgrim to the cave shrine of Amarnath in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) will start on28 June. Keeping this in mind, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (I&B) has revealed that it will create special awareness about the Yatra through All India Radio (AIR) and Doordarshan.

The special awareness campaign is scheduled to commence on 28 June and conclude on 10 August 2014. The sustained campaign would include the broadcast of Public interest messages, documentary films, video spots, audio spots educating the pilgrims about the challenges and medical problems faced during the Yatra.

Recently, I&B ministry secretary Bimal Julka held discussions regarding the implementation of an effective campaign to enhance awareness among pilgrims for the Amarnath Yatra, in view of the nature of pilgrimage. The meeting was organised on the request of Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board chairman and J&K Governor N.N. Vohra.

Julka also mentioned that CEO, Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board would be consulted to finalise the content, form etc. to be designed in local languages which would be understood by most of the pilgrims. Others present at the discussion include principal secretary to Governor (J&K) R.K.Gupta and other senior officials.

According to reports, the first batch of pilgrims will start their journey from the Yatri Niwas at Bhagwati Nagar on 27 June.
