MUMBAI: He wears a hat of a writer, director and music composer. Recently Somik Sen juggled all three roles for the film, Gulab Gang.

While talking to Radioandmusic.com, Sen said, "I did not face a tough time juggling roles, because when you write a film you know exactly what kind of music you need. Thus invariably each song becomes a journey in itself. For instance 'Dheemi Dheemi', being a narrative track, needed a voice like Teejanbai. Since, this free flowing track would suit the character; we got Madhuri to sing the song." The film Gulab Gang has two leading ladies of tinsel town, Madhuri Dixit and Juhi Chawala, but the latter is not depicted in any song.

Hailing from a musical background, his parents had a huge impact on him. "My father has a fabulous voice and being a Bengali you need to learn one form of art at least. Thus I started learning Hindustani vocals and then at the age of 12 I started learning sarod. My journey began at a very early age." he said.

A lot of people say that in this day and age, with the presence of technology anyone can be a singer, to which he partly agrees with. "Technology does help people become singers, but your loopholes do get exposed when you are in front of a mic during live performances," he explained.

He adores the voice of Kaushika Chakraborthy, who will make her Bollywood singing debut with Gulab Gang. He is also an ardent fan of Arijit Singh. The movie is slated to release on 7 March 2014.
