I was not ready for Bollywood: Aditi Paul

MUMBAI: She first appeared on Indian Idol 1, before going off the scene on a long break. Now she is back with a bang, making her debut with Sanjay Leela Bhasali. We are talking about Aditi Paul, who made it to the top five in the first season of the popular reality show.

The singer has made a dream debut, singing ‘Ang Laga De’ and ‘Mor Bani Thanghat Kare’ in the film Ram-leela. When asked about her disappearance from the industry for all these years, Paul says to Radioandmusic.com, “I was not at all ready for Bollywood, also I was constantly shifting my base.” This long break gave her an opportunity to learn Urdu which was extremely important for improving her pronunciations in Hindi. “Since I studied music in Kolkata and learnt songs of Tagore and it became very difficult for me to sing in Hindi, thus I decided to learn Urdu.”

After settling down in Mumbai, she started singing jingles and it was at this time a producer told her that Bhansali was looking out for a fresh voice. “As soon as I got to know, I auditioned for the part and fortunately, got through,” she says.

She has a couple of Bollywood projects in the pipeline but she prefers remaining tight lipped on the same. Apart from that the singer has been touring with AR Rahman for Rahmanishq.
