MUMBAI: The voices of seven girls aged between 4-14 years accompanied with wonderful music by Shamir Tandon and lyrics penned by Sameer, will be played on Big FM stations based in North India from this Thursday till 14 February. The track titled 'Meri Maa' will celebrate the birth of the girl child in North India.

Speaking with Radioandmusic.com, Tandon said, "I was not aware that traditionally families in North India celebrate the birth of a boy child with great enthusiasm, but when it comes to the girl child the same could not be said. So having to compose a track for the girl child was a really good opportunity and I grabbed it."

Tandon continues, "For the track, hearing the seven girls sing and spending some quality time with them was like living a dream. I am a father of two sons, so I always wished I had a girl child." The song was sung by young girls chosen through an on-air contest. The track will be played on Big FM's Delhi, Punjab and Jammu stations. The station plans to invite families that have been blessed with a baby girl and celebrate the first Lohri of the girl with the same enthusiasm and fervor. The special song will be launched at this party and gifted to the girls as a keepsake.

Lyricist Sameer said, "Working for such an initiative makes me very happy. I have daughters and I know the way the society behaves with the girl child. Many people have started realising that girls end up being more caring to their parents as compared to boys." Sameer takes pride in the fact that he is writing for projects that are not just Bollywood.

Tandon plans to promote the track on his social networking sites alongside Big FM promotion. Big FM will run a pre-recorded interview of Tandon across various stations sharing his experience.

Tandon started his musical journey with Raveena Tandon's Stumped, had composed music for Madhur Bhandarkar's films like Page-3, Corporate and Traffic Signal, to name few of his work.

Tandon is currently busy with a few Bollywood projects, which he is very tight-lipped about.
