MUMBAI: Amitabh Bachchan has long lent his deep, baritone voice for various programmes, playback singing and narration. And now, the iconic Bollywood actor will offer his voice to introduce Urdu ghazals that were penned by Swatantryaveer Savarkar, while he served a life sentence in 1921 at Andaman. The ghazals, which were found by Swatantryaveer Savarkar Rashtriya Smarak, have been recorded by some of Bollywood's renowned singers, along with other songs.

Talking about Bachchan's contribution, Swatantryaveer Savarkar Rashtriya Smarak chairman Ranjit Savarkar said, "We are extremely grateful to Amitabhji Bachchan for rendering his heavenly voice introducing the songs. His voice truly enlivens the spirit and passion in which the great freedom fighter has expressed his love for the motherland."

Sarvakar also presented to the famous actor a copy of the late freedom fighter's plight and memoirs of the days he spent at Andaman titled ‘My transportation for life' and a replica of the manuscript in which he wrote the verses while in Andaman. The very same day Bachchan took to his Twitter account to say, "Incomprehensive to fathom what freedom fighters went through to gain independence for nation …! Are they acknowledged enough? Had visited Andaman island, Kala pani and the prisons where freedom fighters were kept. Atrocious stories of their Torture!"

The CD is due for release on 21 January at a function that will be held in Sarvakar Samarak auditorium in Mumbai.
