I didn't want to spoon feed the audience with too much of music : Karan Kulkarni

MUMBAI: Vasan Bala's Peddler maybe Karan Kulkarni’s very first project as a music composer but it would be Hansal Mehta’s Shahid which will be his debut as it is all set to hit the screens in India on 18 October. The composer sounded very excited about the fact that and his association with the film.

Shahid is based on the life of lawyer and human rights activist and has one theme track. Speaking about the film to Radioandmusic.com, Kulkarni said, "Shahid is a real film. It kind of hits you as if it is actually happening. As a music composer, there was no scope to do a lot in the film. There is one song that is the character’s theme and the background score. As I gave the background score for this rare film, I had made up my mind that I do not want to spoon feed the audience with lot of music. It will ruin the film."

He further added, "When you’re creating music for a film one should remember that film is the big thing in the end. It is really important to understand that everyone involved in the film share the same passion."

Kulkarni hails from the family of Doctors but takes pride in that fact that he is the one who has taken to music. He developed his love for music as college students. Then, he travelled to Australia to pursue his degree in music with specialising in electronic music composition. On asked about his strength in a particular genre, he said, "I have resources and a team to pull of any kind of music. If anyone tells me to give something like European or Indian or to say Bollywood, I really can pull it off well."

He had assisted Amit Trivedi for a year and half in his four years of musical career. Kulkarni has worked for Britannia, LNT, Dettol, ENO and Titan and many more. When asked about his future plans, he said, "Peddler and Shahid went to most film festivals last year, these films just happened. I have been working for the past four years and have realised one thing; that when I am not looking out for stuff things don’t happen. When I least expect things work for me. But right now, I am in talks for few projects."
