Aguilera and CeeLo return to 'The Voice'

MUMBAI: Power singers Christina Aguilera and CeeLo Green are back. After taking a break from the hit reality show ‘The Voice’ for one season, stars Christina Aguilera and CeeLo Green return to the Emmy winning talent contest to reprise their roles as judges alongside Adam Levine and Blake Shelton in the new season. The NBC show which won its first Emmy for Best Reality Competition Series returns for its fifth season with two of its original judges. Aguilera and CeeLo's absence was negated by Shakira and Usher.

The ‘Genie in a Bottle’ singer who has a five- year old son Max said that the show was taking a toll on her and the season break was exactly what she needed to get reinvigorated. She said she was committed to striking a balance with her career and life and will be intent on teaching her team of hopeful singers the same this year.

“It's learning how to better care and protect and nurture yourself. I'm giving these kids that coaching advice on my team this year and I'm trying to get them to step, sometimes away from, sorry, the competition of it and just live and breathe into music and remember why you're up there on that stage."

‘The Voice’ season 5 premier kicked off with the four judges singing Joan Jett classic ‘I Love Rock ‘n’ Roll’. While CeeLo nabbed the first singer, it was Aguilera who probably picked the singer of the night. Matthew Schuler’s version of ‘Cough Syrup’ by Young the Giants turned all four judges’ attention to him. However, it was Aguilera who managed to get him onto her team.

Aguilera will be keen on winning a coaching trophy this season,a prize that has eluded her since the show’s inception. Previously winners include Maroon 5’s frontman, Adam Levine who won it once and country singer Blake Shelton who won the competition thrice.
