Excerpts:

How was your experience singing for Krrish 3?

Fantastic! Rajesh Roshan is one of the finest music composers when it comes to melody. He has been my favourite composer right from the days of the film Julie. The minute he asked me if I would sing for Krrish 3, I agreed immediately. Initially, I felt the song was very high for my range but he assured me that it will suit my voice and that I should go ahead and sing it. While I was recording the song, even Hrithik was present. Roshans were very sure of things they wanted from me including the feel and expression. They told me that I own this song. The recording went well and now I am eagerly waiting to hear it on screen as Kangana is going to perform on it.

What kind of track have you sung for Krissh 3?

I am singing for Kangana, who will be playing a negative character and attempts to seduce Hrithik. Later she realizes that she has developed emotions for him.

There were rumors that you sung for Priyanka too?

I didn’t sing for Priyanka. There was an optional track that I was asked to sing which was optional. But later the song was edited owing to the length of the film. There is a song for Priyanka which was sung by Shreya.

What are your criteria, when you sing for films? Are you choosy about the film, tracks or the lyrics of the song?

I don’t select the songs. The song chooses me. I am very choosy. I don’t take everything that comes my way. Once in a while, when I sing a song I am confident about the

are your views on the amendment of the Copyright Act?

Right from the beginning I have been a lone crusader of Copyright. Now, people are waking up to the fact after the act was amended. At least now the law has been amended and covers singer and lyric-writers. Now, there is a newly formed Indian Singers Right Association. The singers get their due and share. I just join the association so that the singer gets the royalties for the track one sings. Every singer wants their dues. All actors get their profit sharing revenues so why not all of them who are artistically linked get their dues.

How much of the implementation has taken place?

Law was just formed and the implementation is low because everyone is resisting it. People are used to not paying and when they are asked to do so they grumble. If they want to take the music industry moving then they have to abide with the law. Once the ethics change everything will change.

From the entire range of your albums, which is your all time favourite (apart from Made in India which is everyone’s favorite)? And why?

Baby Doll is my favorite album for the fact that it did well without a video the track did so well because the music was vivacious, peppy and cute.

With growing Indie scene in India, would you like to try some experiment with music?

I would love to experiment. People have shifted to the whole concept to live music and band. I would really enjoy doing something new.

Are you working on any album?

I have just finished with my single. It will be a mainstream song produced by London based boys Hitz Shah from Onetouchproductions; Sunny and Anand from XXL productionz. The single is mixed and mastered by Mauro of Hi Street Studios UK. We are also in process of filming the video and there is surprise for the audience.
