Babul Supriyo rubbishes reports of acting in Kamal Khan film

MUMBAI: Singer Babul Supriyo is affronted by news reports saying he has been pencilled in to act in a film being made by Kamal Khan, who made the controversial 'Deshdrohi' last year. Khan has gone on record saying he has singers like Sukhwinder Singh, Vinod Rathod and Babul Supriyo acting in his forthcoming project based on the 26/11 attacks on Mumbai.

Sony Music opens office in Dubai

MUMBAI: Sony Music Entertainment has launched operations in Dubai. Dubbed Sony Music Entertainment Middle East, the Dubai office has been established to cover the regional market, says Sony Music Entertainment Asia president Daniel DiCicco. The Middle East operations will promote content by signed international artistes from the United States, India and the Philippines. The label also plans signing regional artistes and distributing their music around the world.

Shabir Saznawaz to get Sangeet Natak Akademi

MUMBAI: Two youth musician Shabir Saznawaz and theatrist Sumit Sharma from the Valley have been selected for this year's Sangeet Natak Akademi Yova Ustad Bismilah Khan Award. This is for the first time in the history of the State that this prestigious award has been conferred. Secretary Jammu Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages, Zaffar Iqbal Manhas, stated that Saznawaz has been selected in Sofiyana Music while Sharma was chosen by the high level jury constituted by the SNA.

India in US' new list of top copyright abusers

MUMBAI: India figures on a just released US priority watch list of countries that need to do a better job protecting copyrights. Canada too figures in this list, for the first time. The US says there are increasing concerns about Canada's need for copyright reforms, and better policing of its borders to seize pirated goods. Algeria, Argentina, Chile, Indonesia, Israel, Pakistan, Thailand and Venezuela are the other countries that figure on the list.
