India to become teleport hub; FM Radio Phase III to commence within current financial year: Varma

NEW DELHI: The Information and Broadcasting Ministry (I&B) is expected to have wide-ranging consultations soon with the industry to fulfil its objective of turning India into a teleport hub for up linking / down linking satellite television channels so that there is no dependence on Hong Kong and Singapore. The Ministry will work out modalities, challenges and road map for this purpose, Ministry Secretary Uday Kumar Varma said at the media and entertainment summit, ‘The Big Picture’, organized by the Confederation of Indian Industry.

MUMBAI: After playback singing, renowned singer Sunidhi Chauhan is all set to don the hat of a voiceover artiste for the upcoming 3D animated movie ‘Sons of Ram- Heroes will Rise,’ presented by Amar Chitra Katha. Chauhan will do the voiceover for the character of Sita in the movie inspired by late Anant Pai’s famous comic ‘Sons of Rama’. The movie is a contemporary tale of brotherhood, courage and adventure, set in the backdrop of the epic Ramayana. M&E industry to exceed Rs 1.75 tn by 2016: report

MUMBAI: India’s Media & Entertainment (M&E) industry is expected to exceed Rs 1.75 trillion (Rs 175,000 crores) and grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 17 per cent from 2012 to 2016, as per CII-PwC report titled ‘ India Entertainment & media Outlook 2012. The report has been released today at the ‘India-Big Picture’ CII-Media and Entertainment Summit held at New Delhi.

Indian mobile handset sales touch 100mn units in 1H 2012: report

MUMBAI: Total shipments of mobile handsets in the country was recorded at 102.43 mn units during 1H 2012 (January-June 2012), according to CyberMedia Research's(CMR) India Mobile Handsets Market Review, 2Q 2012, September 2012 release. As per the report, total India shipments of smart phones were 5.50 mn units during the same period. In the handset division, Nokia led the race in the handset market with a total share of 22.2 per cent in the unit shipments followed by Samsung at 13 per cent and Micromax at 5.5 per cent.
