Sunidhi Chauhan's scintillating performance in the City of Dreams

MUMBAI: The word versatility is coined for Sunidhi Chauhan. Romantic, peppy, seductive, sad or happy, Sunidhi has aced all of it with immense aplomb. We have experienced her virtuosity in recorded songs but her live performance on Friday was nothing short of phenomenal.

Kismat Konnection

usic Director: Pritam Chakraborthy Our Rating: 3/ 5 Wonder how music director Pritam Chakraborthy muscles in so many music albums across the year! After giving blockbuster hit Race early 2008, he came up with his latest album, Singh Is Kinng, which does just about fair; and now it's time to put kismat Konnection under the scanner!

Singh is Kinng

Music Director: Pritam Chakraborty Lyrics: Mayur Puri Our Rating: 2.5 / 5 Not the usual, not an extremist either. The music of Singh is Kinng comes packed with anticipations, courtesy its far flung promotions. A major portion of the music is westernised. Music director Pritam Chakravorthy has mainly dug into the English style of music, inclusive of rapping and bit of rock. However appealing the music may be, bits and pieces are a straight cut-copy-paste job from some of Pritam's earlier work, which leave the listener disappointed.

Coldplay - Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends

Record label: EMI Records Our Rating: 4/5 Coldplay have developed and evolved with each of their four albums and this one is no different. This album has been billed as their experimental record with frontman Chris Martin's growing popularity on every album he's penning. The album's tracks have floated with images of War, God, Religion and Death. This might just go down as a benchmark album and we might also see a flagship revival of progressive-rock-pop culture to the musical mainstream.

Love Story 2050

Music Director: Anu Malek Director: Harry Baweja Our Rating: 2/ 5After two years of lull, Anu Malek returns with 'Love Story 2050'. Even though the movie is supposed to be futuristic, set in 2050, the music seems dated back to the 1990s. The lyrics by Javed Akhtar are not that heart rending and add nothing to the dragging compositions. He disappoints. Most of the tracks are strictly mediocre and do not impress much.

De Taali

Music Director: Vishal-Shekhar Director- E Niwas Producer- Ravi Walia Our Rating- 2.5/5 After the roaring success of 'Tashan' and not so great compositions of 'Bhoothnath', Vishal-Shekhar have returned with 'De Taali'. Vishal has doubled up again as a lyricist for some tracks. But for their penchant for obviously routine tracks, De Taali has some foot-thumping tracks in true Vishal Shekhar style.

Ada

Music Director: A.R. Rahman Lyrics: Nusrat Badr and Raqueeb Alam Our Rating: 3/ 5 Ada certainly reflects the versatility of ace music director A R Rahman. It has a soothing feel to the music, but cannot be slotted as one of his best works. The musician has dished out some magical albums like Guru, Rang De Basanti and Jodha Akhbar. Ada is an album with eight songs and an instrumental, sans remix versions of any.

Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na

Music director- AR Rahman Director- Abbas Tyrewala Producer- Aamir Khan, Mansoor Khan Our Rating: 3/ 5 After a long time, the Hindi film industry has dished out a 100 percent youth film, Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na. And with A R Rahman scheming the music debut Abbas Tyrewala directed venture, a lot of expectations seep in. He offers some youthful and trendy numbers. Not everyday one hears Rahman giving music so mainstream. The album has eight tracks going well with the mushy campus flick. The songs are penned by Tyrewala himself, carrying forward the current trend of Hinglish.

Hastey Hastey

Music Director: Anu Malik Lyrics: Sameer Our Rating: 2/ 5 Once again, Sameer and Anu Malik come together to create music for the Indian audience. But this time Malik's score fails badly and Sameer's lyrics are just a series of catchy words. One thing worth noticing is the length of the songs. Most of the songs in the album are more than six minutes long. Not a great album, but Bheegi Bheegi sung by Kunal Ganjawala is worth applauding. Almadad chere khuda is the first song on the list sung by Zubin.
