Cabaret music review: An assortment of romantic and not-so-romantic songs

MUMBAI: The fact that the Richa Chadda starrer 'Cabaret' is based on yesteryear film cabaret artiste Helen itself lends itself to high expectations on the music front. Directed by Kaustav Narayan Niyogi and produced by Bhushan Kumar and Pooja Bhatt, the film presents Richa as a bold cabaret dancer. As for the music, it did not excite us much, but some tracks did soothe away our summer blues.

Song: Phir Teri Bahon Mein
Singer: Sonu Kakkar
Music: Tony Kakkar
Lyrics: Tony Kakkar
Music : T-Series

This is a romantic song sung by Sonu Kakkar. The lyrics and music arrangements are done by Tony Kakkar. Sonu's amazing soulful voice does justice to this track. The composition is soothing but the video of the song has too many intimate scenes, distracting from the beauty of the song. Nevertheless, worth a listen.

This song is sung by Roopkumar Rathod and composed by Kaustav Narayan Niyogi and Munish Makhija. Lyrics are written by Kaustav Narayan Niyogi. It is beautifully sung by Roopkumar Rathod, though there is nothing exceptional when it comes to the music composition and lyrics. Satisfactory number, this one.

Song: Bibi Sanam
Singer: Usha Uthup
Music: Munish Makhija
Additional Lyrics: Kaustav Narayan Niyogi
Music : T-Series

This is a recreation of the original Afghani song sung by Shamsuddin Masrur. Zeb and Haniya have covered this song brilliantly in 'Coke Studio 3'. This version is sung by Usha Uthup and the recreation of the song is not so impressive. There are some added lyrics which do not make any sense. The creators of the song should understand that some songs do not need remakes. This is a bad remake and you can pass over this track. The brilliance of Usha Uthup is wasted in this one.

Song: Mohe Aaye Na Jag Se Laaj

Lyrics: Qateel Shifai
Arranged & Produced By: Lindsay D'mello
Music On: T-Series

Composed by Munish Makhija, this song is amazingly sung by Neeti Mohan and the lyrics are penned by Qateel Shifai. The music arrangements are pretty appealing and Neeti’s soulful voice does justice to this song. It is a classical music based song along with some engaging electronic beats which we liked.
