British Indian singer-songwriter Deepa Nair Rasiya releases new album 'Destination'

MUMBAI: British Indian singer-songwriter Deepa Nair Rasiya's 10-track album 'Destination' has released today under National award winning engineer-producer KJ Singh's label Asli Music, along with a music video of a song from her album, ‘Eh Tan Mera’ which will be airing on Pepsi MTV Indies. Deepa's previous single ‘Ab Toh Jaag,’ which released earlier this year, also received a lot of critical acclaim.

In a world where there is an increasing search for deeper truth and the meaning of existence, 'Destination' offers an opportunity for the listener to ponder the wisdom and messages of the Mystic Masters through the centuries. 'Destination' comprises a selection of verses from mystic poets from the subcontinent including Sant Kabir, Baba Bulleh Shah, Hazrat Shah Hussain, Hazrat Sultan Bahu and Baba Naamdev. Each set of lyrics has been set to authentic, original raag-based melodies but have been clothed in contemporary instrumental arrangements for broader accessibility and universal appeal by KJ Singh, who has also produced albums for many artists and bands in the past including Rabbi Shergill, Indian Ocean and Spud In The Box.

"'Destination' is now born and available for the world to taste, dive into and embrace," said Deepa. "The melodies in this album took shape in my mind over time, as the lyrical content of these chosen poems percolated in my consciousness. I am aware that this album has a very different sound from what most people have become accustomed to, in mainstream popular Indian music, but I would like to think that there is an unmistakable honesty and authenticity in this body of work which will strike the listener - every word and every line has been felt from the heart, in its musical presentation. I passionately hope that these songs will capture the imagination of my audience - that it will inspire, uplift and enchant."

"I am in complete awe of Deepa's voice and agreed to produce her album immediately when she played me her compositions," said KJ. "It was an amazing experience to see her labour of love take shape, slowly but surely. Some incredible inputs on guitar by Sanjoy Das (Bapi) and Partha Paul on keyboards, with violin by Manas made it possible for us to arrive at this melodious album."

Deepa is trained in both South Indian and North Indian classical music and has been performing since the tender age of seven. Her vocals have featured on numerous global projects including recordings with George Harrison, Pandit Ravi Shankar, Café Del Mar and the Buddha Bar series, and the background score of Bride and Prejudice, Bhaji on the Beach and Mistress of Spices. Her previous album, Into the Light, released in 2006 under the production of Craig Pruess.

There is word that this talented artist is going to be touring in India very soon, and is also all set to perform at major music festivals in Europe, including Stockholm Cultural Festival in August.
